A former top economic professional for Dauphin County has filed a federal suit, alleging he was wrongly fired after acting as a whistleblower.
Daniel Robinson, who worked in the county’s Department of Community and Economic Development until this spring, sued Dauphin County and two of its three commissioners Thursday.
The former deputy director of resources and planning’s complaint alleges Mike Pries and George Hartwick wrongly fired him after he investigated “matters of alleged governmental wrongdoing, financial irregularities, and misuse of public funds” and subsequently expressed concerns.
The 11-page Harrisburg federal court complaint stated that Robinson investigated these matters at Dauphin County Chairman Justin Douglas’s request.
“Pries and Hartwick sought to remove him because of the information he possessed, the concerns he had raised, and his assistance to Douglas,” the document states.
According to the suit, Robinson also alerted his former boss, George Connor, about deficiencies in their department’s financial oversight as well as the potential “misuse, waste, and/or improper handling of public funds.” Robinson’s concerns included “the manner in which certain County funds and financial matters were being monitored and administered,” the suit said.
