Former DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital nurse Wilfredo Figueroa-Berrios is facing multiple civil lawsuits and three criminal cases involving allegations of sexual assault. Attorneys Todd Flood and James Harrington said the claims suggest a pattern of misconduct spanning nearly ten years. The Detroit News reported that nine women have come forward so far, though more potential victims may exist.
Allegations against former Sinai-Grace Hospital nurse Wilfredo Figueroa-Berrios include assaults on patients and coworkers, including a pregnant woman during childbirth. Attorney Todd Flood said, “There is an avalanche of evidence to show that this predator,” and noted that several reports had been made about his conduct, as per The Detroit News. Sinai-Grace Hospital told WXYZ that its hiring process included background checks and that there were no prior concerns when Figueroa-Berrios was hired. The hospital said it is cooperating with law enforcement. A former employee who reported his behavior said she was later terminated after raising her concerns to supervisors.
DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital said privacy laws prevent it from sharing patient information and stated that no retaliation is tolerated within the organization, as mentioned by FOX 2 Detroit.
