Former employees share concerns about St. Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City’s sterile processing procedures - KMBC Kansas City
KANSAS CITY, Mo. —
Two former employees of St. Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City have come forward to KMBC 9 Investigates after hearing a whistleblower filed written complaints with state and federal agencies over concerns about safety practices at a Kansas City hospital.
The original whistleblower, Elizabeth J. Bell, alleges St. Luke's Hospital of Kansas City, 4401 Wornall Road, has sterile processing practices that are out of compliance with state and federal regulations.
Bell on Sunday filed separate complaints with Missouri’s Department of Health and Senior Services, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and the Joint Commission – an organization that issues accreditation to U.S. healthcare organizations.
Bell was hired as a sterile processing manager for St. Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City in September of 2022. She left in July of this year.
St. Luke’s Hospital continues to “vigorously deny these claims” in a new statement to KMBC 9 Investigates Wednesday, saying “Saint Luke’s has and always will continue to provide exceptional patient care.”
STERILE PROCESSING PROCEDURES QUESTIONED BY FORMER EMPLOYEES
Earlier this week, Bell claimed St. Luke's refuses to remove damaged, broken, or rusted surgical instruments from use on patients.
