Former HR manager sues Flagler County in whistleblower claim, alleges wrongful termination - Yahoo! Voices
A former human resources manager for Flagler County is suing the Flagler County Board of Commissioners for what she says was wrongful termination.
Samantha Whitfield filed the civil lawsuit in the 7th Judicial Circuit Court of Flagler County on Oct. 8. In the legal motion, Whitfield claims the county failed to take action when another employee was harassing her and staff chose instead to end her employment.
Whitfield was hired in August 2019 as a human resources manager and worked until July 19, 2024, at which time she says she was let go. In the lawsuit, she claims she was competent at her job, "often receiving compliments on her job performance."
Whitfield is seeking “all legally available, general and compensatory damages,” as well as attorney fees and costs in excess of $50,000.
Marie Mattox, the Tallahassee-based attorney representing Whitfield, did not respond to several attempts by The News-Journal seeking comment.
The county has outsourced representation of the case to Pausha Taghdiri of Orlando-based law firm Roper, Townsend & Sutphen, according to Flagler County Attorney Sean Moylan. Taghdiri also did not return calls to The News-Journal.
