Min Joong-ki’s special investigation team on the 26th referred all allegations of former first lady Kim Keon-hee receiving various valuables to trial.
The special counsel announced through a press release that Kim was indicted on charges of soliciting and receiving bribes under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes. Kim is accused of receiving valuables in exchange for favors from Seohee Construction Co. Chairman Lee Bong-gwan, former National Education Committee Chairman Lee Bae-yong, Drone Dom CEO Seo Sung-bin, former senior prosecutor Kim Sang-min, and Pastor Choi Jae-young.
Kim is alleged to have received jewelry and luxury items worth approximately 103.8 million Korean won from Chairman Lee in March 2022, alongside a request to influence the personnel affairs of her son-in-law, former prosecutor Park Sung-geun. Chairman Lee was charged with violating the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act.
Former Chairman Lee Bae-yong allegedly handed over gold turtles worth approximately 2.65 million Korean won to Kim on April 26 and early June 2022 as compensation for personnel requests. While the special counsel indicted Kim on charges of soliciting and receiving bribes, former Chairman Lee was not indicted.
