PITTSFIELD TWP., MI — The attorney for the staffer previously in a relationship with ousted Michigan football Coach Sherrone Moore was behind false statements leading to his arrest, his attorney argues.
Moore was “villainized” in statements given to police by Heidi Sharp, Moore’s Detroit-based attorney Ellen Michaels said in a motion filed early Thursday morning.
Sharp, an employment attorney based in Clinton Township, is representing the woman with whom Moore is accused of having a relationship and subsequently stalking.
Michaels alleges there is no history of domestic violence and a claim of stalking was a “single, work-related communication.”
“(Sharp) characterized a mental health crisis involving self-harm as an attack,” Michaels wrote.
Sharp did not respond to a request for comment.
Moore, 39, is facing criminal charges after he reportedly attempted to a confront the staffer shortly after his firing Dec. 10. He was terminated for violating University of Michigan policy after school officials found evidence he was engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member, the university said, ending his two-year stint as the school’s head coach.
Moore reportedly tried to break into the staffer’s apartment as she was attempting to leave after making a report to the University of Michigan, according to a transcript of a swear-to or warrant hearing before Magistrate Odetalla M. Odetalla.
