Former Montebello city manager settles lawsuit against city - The Whittier Daily News

Former Montebello City Manager Francesca Tucker-Schuyler and the city of Montebello, which she sued after her contract was terminated, have reached a settlement, according to court papers.

Details, however, remain secret and neither side is commenting.

“The settlement you mentioned has not been formally submitted to City Council for consideration and approval so the city has no comment until this action takes place,” Michael Chee, city spokesman said in an email responding on Monday, April 25, to a request for settlement details and comment.

Reed Aljian, attorney for Tucker-Schuyler on Monday didn’t return a phone call seeking comment.

The settlement was reached during private mediation, according to a document signed by Nicholas Weiss, attorney for the city.

Tucker-Schuyler sued the city in June 2020 after her contract in March 2019 was paid off and terminated.

It cost the city $459,400 to pay the 18-month severance-pay provision in Tucker-Schuyler’s $225,000 five-year contract approved in March 2015. Before the contract was terminated, she had been on a paid leave of absence for 16 months.

Tucker-Schuyler filed a claim seeking nearly $12.5 million and then sued, claiming he was fired for reporting wrongdoing within City Hall and because she is a woman.

The lawsuit, which sought unspecified damages, alleged whistleblower retaliation, discrimination based on sex, wrongful termination and failure to prevent discrimination.
