The special prosecutor’s team led by Min Joong-ki, investigating various allegations related to former first lady Kim Keon-hee, has indicted former President Yoon Suk-yeol for publicizing false information during the presidential election campaign. This marks the eighth time Yoon has been prosecuted since the December 3 emergency martial law declaration.
The special counsel announced on the 26th through a press release, “Former President Yoon Suk-yeol, as a People Power Party candidate in the 20th presidential election, publicized false information during debates, interviews, and other events,” and indicted him for violating the Public Official Election Act.
As the People Power Party’s presidential candidate on December 14, 2021, Yoon dismissed allegations that he introduced a lawyer to former Yongsan Tax Office chief Yoon Woo-jin during a debate hosted by the Kwanhun Club. Former chief Yoon was the older brother of Yoon Dae-jin, head of the Central District Prosecutors’ Office’s Anti-Corruption Division No. 3, with whom former President Yoon was close during his tenure as head of the Central District Prosecutors’ Office’s Anti-Corruption Division No. 1.
