On Thursday morning former city Controller S. Ben Hebert and his attorney Allison A. Jones hosted a press conference in the American Towers to announce the filing of a whistleblower suit against the City of Shreveport.
“I am saddened that I have had to file suit to vindicate the illegal termination of my employment by the City of Shreveport," said Hebert.
On Oct. 19, 2022, Hebert filed suit alleging that his termination was a violation of the Louisiana whistleblower statute. He alleges, that the City of Shreveport terminated his employment because of his protected whistleblowing activities. "This lawsuit is about justice for Mr. Hebert," said Jones. "Such conduct by city leaders is retaliatory and illegal."
On Dec. 31, 2021, the City of Shreveport terminated Hebert who had been an employee with for over eight years. During his time with Shreveport, he served as Internal Auditor and Fraud Hotline Investigator, as well as Controller.
Herbert was terminated just days after he refused to participate in what he believed were financial improprieties that violated Louisiana law.
The petition filed stated:
"Plaintiff objected to the failure of the City of Shreveport to pay certain employee payroll taxes for pension and retirement funds due to the State of Louisiana and the Internal Revenue Service.
