ST. LOUIS – The former sheriff of St. Louis faces a new lawsuit filed by a former employee.
According to the lawsuit, Tashana Syas was the director of personnel and fiscal operations for the City of St. Louis’ Sheriff’s Office while former sheriff Alfred Montgomery’s held the position.
The former sheriff and the department are accused of punishing Syas for whistle blowing and being a woman over 40 years old.
When Montgomery became subject of an investigation by former Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey in August 2025, Syas was subpoenaed to testify. Syas appeared in court on Aug. 26, 2025, and “testified under oath truthfully for several hours about the workings of the City of St. Louis Sheriff’s Office.”
Following her testimony, the lawsuit states that Syas was informed on Sept. 5, 2025, that she, along with two others in the office, were to be terminated and banned from entering courthouses in the city “for their cooperation with inquiring authorities.”
Syas alleges that she also received an anonymous voice memo of Montgomery saying she and the two others would be let go for talking to investigators in his criminal investigation.
Six days later, on Sept. 11, 2025, the records say Syas was led to Carnahan Courthouse where she was met with several officials, including attorneys, a judge and Montgomery, and was cross-examined.
