Former TTD chairman booked over ‘false’ claims in Goshala row - Times of India

Vijayawada: Tirupati police registered a case against former Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) chairman and YSRCP leader Bhumana Karunakar Reddy for allegedly spreading false and misleading information regarding the condition of the TTD Goshala. The case was filed on Thursday night following a formal complaint lodged by BJP leader and TTD board member G Bhanuprakash Reddy.
According to the FIR, Karunakar Reddy is accused of claiming that hundreds of cows died at the TTD Goshala due to negligence. Bhanuprakash Reddy, in his complaint addressed to Tirupati SP P Harshavardhan, termed the publication as a "false, fraudulent, and politically motivated" attempt to tarnish the reputation of the TTD, which he described as a globally respected Hindu institution. He alleged that the images used in the report were unrelated to the TTD Goshala and were deliberately used to mislead the public and hurt the sentiments of devotees.
He further emphasised the significance of the TTD Goshala in temple operations, noting that it supplies milk, curd, and ghee for religious purposes. Comparing such a sacred facility to a slaughterhouse, he said, deeply offended the religious sentiments of devotees and amounted to defamation of the institution.
The case has been registered under Sections 353(1), 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 74 of the Information Technology Act, 2000 at Sri Venkateshwara University police station. These provisions relate to spreading misinformation,...
