GRAND FORKS, N.D. (KFGO) – The former head coach of the University of North Dakota women’s soccer team has filed a federal lawsuit against the university, claiming it retaliated against him and violated the state’s Whistleblower Act.
Chris Logan was the team’s head coach from December 2016 until last November when his contract was not renewed. According to the university’s website, Logan led the team to its first Summit League Tournament appearance and first 10-win season since 2006.
In the lawsuit, Logan claims UND chose not to renew his contract after he reported significant disparities between men’s and women’s soccer facilities and resources at the university.
According to Logan, UND’s women’s soccer playing field did not meet NCAA recommended dimensions. He says, unlike men’s facilities, the women’s soccer field lacked proper security and enclosure, only had two small bleachers for spectators, and had a shed for a press box. He says men’s facilities have permanent bleachers and press box.
Last March, Logan brought his concerns about the facilities and disparities between men’s and women’s athletics contracts to UND administration. In November, he participated in a Title IX investigation regarding gender-based disparities in athletic facilities and resources. Less than three weeks later, UND informed Logan his contract would not be renewed.
