Former Wheeling business owner admits to taking $250,000 of COVID relief money for personal expenses through false claims - WTRF

WHEELING, W.Va. (WTRF) — A former Wheeling business owner has pleaded guilty to a federal charge tied to misuse of COVID-19 relief funds.

Bradley Temple, 48, of Delray Beach, Florida, formerly of Wheeling, pleaded guilty to unlawful money transactions, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Court documents state Temple operated Righteous Brother’s Trucking and applied for a Paycheck Protection Program loan and an Economic Injury Disaster Loan under the CARES Act.

Prosecutors said Temple made false statements about his business to obtain $277,456 in relief funds.

Authorities said he then used the money for personal or non-approved expenses, including a $40,000 cashier’s check to purchase a vehicle.

Temple faces up to 10 years in prison and will be required to pay restitution. A federal judge will determine the sentence at a later date.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer Conklin is prosecuting the case.

The investigation was conducted by IRS Criminal Investigation and the NASA Office of Inspector General, with support from the Pandemic Response Accountability Committee.

U.S. Magistrate Judge James P. Mazzone presided.
