Former whistleblower and former Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) board member Sandra Cam has passed away, her family announced on Thursday.
"It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dearly beloved mother, Sandra Abaño-Martinez-Cam," her son posted on his social media account.
"Sandra Cam was born and raised in the humble town Batuan, Masbate. She is a faithful woman of God and was known for her dauntless courage, bold spirit and unwavering dedication as a diligent fighter for truth," said her son, adding that these qualities earned her the "Dangal ng Bayan" award,recognition as "Natatanging Filipina na sumusulong sa Pagtulong at Paglaban sa Korapsyon," and "Outstanding Asian Public Servant and Educator."
"Mama Ningning," he added, "was a resilient single mother who raised three sons into strong, capable men — each one carrying forward her legacy of serving the Filipino with courage and compassion."
It can be recalled that Cam was a jueteng whistleblower and headed the Whistleblowers Association of the Philippines. She also ran for a Senate seat but lost in 2016.
Her remains lie in state at the St. Peter Chapels in Parañaque City and viewing has been scheduled to start on Friday April 11, 2025 at 6 p.m. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
