Four including parents and son indicted for defrauding MassHealth personal support program - WCVB Boston

WOBURN, Mass. —

Four people have been indicted for allegedly falsely billing MassHealth’s Personal Care Attendant program, Attorney General Maura Healey announced.

The four suspects have been named as Richard Blake III, 53, of Hudson, New Hampshire; Frank Berry Jr., 32; and Berry’s parents, Frank Berry Sr., 63, and Patricia Berry, 60, of Tyngsborough. The Middlesex County Grand jury indicted them on one count of Medicaid false claims and one count of larceny over $1,200.

The four, between Feb. 24, 2016, and Sept. 5, 2021, defrauded MassHealth by saying on timesheets that Blake and Berry Jr. were taking care of Berry Sr. and Patricia Berry during hours while they were working at other jobs, alleges the AG’s office.

The MassHealth Personal Care Attendant program provides funding for people to stay and get medically necessary care in their homes. MassHealth members can hire personal care attendants for assistance with daily living.

The Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Division has indicted people in the past for similar fraudulent activity that abused the Personal Care Attendant program.
