Free York HR event to cover major employment law reforms - Yahoo News UK

EMPLOYMENT law reforms are on the agenda at a free HR event for small business owners.

The session, hosted by York-based HR consultancy McMillan & Associates, will take place at Yor-Office, Clifton Moor, York on Wednesday, July 1, from 5pm to 6.30pm as part of the Clifton Moor Business Connect series.

Led by HR specialist Siobhan Clarke, the event will focus on upcoming changes to the Employment Rights Act and what employers need to do now to remain compliant.

Siobhan Clarke, HR specialist, said: "Some business owners may think that these reforms are something to deal with in the future, but several changes are already here, and others are moving quickly towards implementation.

"For SMEs, the act can have impact on their recruitment practice, policies, contracts and day-to-day operations."

The event will outline which changes are already in force, what is on the horizon, and practical steps businesses can take to prepare.

Updates to statutory sick pay, family leave, workplace protections, and flexible working are part of the reforms, as well as forthcoming measures around zero-hours contracts, guaranteed hours, shift notice requirements, and dismissal protections.

Hospitality and tourism employers, who often depend on flexible and seasonal staff, are likely to be among the sectors most affected.

A new Fair Work Agency, launched earlier this year, will centralise employment rights enforcement with a greater emphasis on compliance.
