A fund management executive was banned by the UK finance watchdog for making false claims about his financial position in a bid to buy a bank and a football club.

Paul Taylor, then chief executive officer of Blue Horizon Asset Management, was fined 489,000 ($661,230) and banned from working in UK financial services by the Financial Conduct Authority, according to a statement on Friday.
