Vancouver mayor says false claims didn't harm councillor, who 'supported drug use'thecanadianpressnews.
KOZHIKODE: CPM has taken action against Payyannur MLA and party leader TI Madhusoodanan in connection with the controversy over alleged misappropriation of party funds. He has been demoted from Kannur district secretariat to district committee.
Two other area committee members, K K Gangadharan and T Viswanathan, have also been demoted to the lower committee. However, the party has also taken action against Payyannur area secretary V Kunhikrishnan, who had raised the issue in the party committees and has removed him from the post.
CPM state committee member T V Rajesh has been given charge of the area secretary. Following the decision, Kunhikrishnan has said that he was quitting public life. The party had taken action against him on the premise that his stand led to the issue being discussed in the public realm and caused discredit for the party. Also, area committee office secretary Karivellur Karunakaran has been suspended for one year, and former area secretary K P Madhu has been censured.
CPM in Payyannur was rocked by a series of allegations of fund misappropriation, including funds collected by the area committee for the 2021 assembly polls. Action was taken against Madhusoodanan on the ground that he did not exercise proper vigil as a candidate and a senior party member in overseeing the handling of funds.
