The Labour politician who stoked false claims of a VIP paedophile ring was criticised by victims of the scandal after he appeared on TV yesterday.
Tom Watson, who is soon to be given a peerage, tried to downplay his link with jailed Carl Beech.
He admitted he had made a mistake in trusting the twisted fantasist, whose lurid lies led to innocent Establishment figures being arrested.
But the former Labour deputy leader insisted he had sought only to reassure the fraudster before he spoke to police, rather than receiving names of suspects from him.

But his performance was blasted by a former Tory MP whose life was turned upside down by Scotland Yard’s Operation Midland.
Harvey Proctor said: ‘I am appalled at ITV’s Good Morning Britain providing Tom Watson with a soapbox to endorse his peerage.
‘It was a grossly unbalanced charade. As ever, he was economical with the truth. He is yet to apologise to me.’
He challenged ITV to invite him on to the show to make his case and claimed Mr Watson had in fact interfered in the botched police investigation.
‘Better still, invite Tom Watson and me on to your show together – I bet you do not,’ he told the broadcaster online.
Mr Watson had told Good Morning Britain: ‘I did make a mistake and I have apologised.’
