Helen McEntee is accused by a garda whistleblower of ‘dangerously and recklessly’ disclosing his identity to his superiors during her tenure as Minister for Justice, Extra.ie can reveal.
According to the whistleblower, forwarded his protected disclosures back to An Garda Síochána for investigation, even though they made serious accusations against Garda Commissioner Drew Harris.
According to the second of two garda whistleblowers currently providing protected disclosures to Extra.ie, by doing so, then-Justice Minister Helen McEntee ‘dangerously and recklessly exposed my identity contrary to legislation and contrary to her own Departmental policies at that time’.
A departmental source, speaking on condition of anonymity, described the allegations as ‘partial, inaccurate and misleading in a number of respects’.
The whistleblower is a senior serving officer, whose protected disclosures have alleged an industrial level of mismanagement of firearms at Garda HQ; a series of disclosures about the lead-up to, and investigation of, the murder of Detective Colm Horkan and the part played by a defective holster he was wearing at the time of his killing; and a whole dossier of other shocking revelations.
The whistleblower has also made some protected disclosures about garda behaviour in relation to firearms charges against now-deceased Carlow gunman Evan Fitzgerald.
