WEST PALM BEACH — A Palm Beach Gardens pharmacist helped secure a $300 million settlement from Walgreens after sounding the alarm on opioid-dispensing abuses from behind the counter.
Dr. Elmer Mosley, who worked at Walgreens pharmacies for more than 40 years, said the company fostered a corporate culture of "fill and dispense," regardless of the consequences. He said Walgreens leaders pressured pharmacists to fill controlled-substance prescriptions quickly without first verifying their validity.
The dosages became higher and more frequent each month, Mosley said. Longtime patients overdosed and died.
