Robert L. Ortbals Jr. and Katie M. Rhoten, member-owners of Gateway Employment Law, launched their firm in 2024 to protect employees who have been mistreated by their employers. The attorneys bring nearly 30 years of combined experience handling employment cases to their practice, which represents workers in Missouri and Illinois who have suffered discrimination, harassment or retaliation.
Before founding Gateway Employment Law, Ortbals and Rhoten worked together for many years at a large employment defense firm. Their transition to employee advocacy was motivated by their desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individual clients whose careers have been disrupted by workplace mistreatment.
Despite operating for only nine months, the firm has maintained a consistent client pipeline built on the strong reputation the founders established in their previous practice. They have successfully helped numerous clients navigate and resolve difficult workplace situations and wrongful termination cases.
The Fenton-based firm emphasizes community education, with both attorneys committed to informing people about their rights as employees.
