GB News pays substantial damages for ‘categorically false’ allegations - Searchlight Magazine

GB News has been forced to apologise and pay substantial damages to a Muslim charity, after broadcasting false terrorism allegations. The High Court settlement vindicated the charity, which said the claims endangered staff and beneficiaries and perpetuated damaging disinformation.

The case arose from a February 2025 edition of ‘The Camilla Tominey Show’, in which guest Amjad Taha alleged that Islamic Relief had channelled funds to terrorist groups in the Middle East.

Tominey, who is also associate editor and executive editor of The Daily Telegraph, failed to challenge the remarks, allowing them to be broadcast uncorrected.

Suggested collusion

Islamic Relief, based in Birmingham and operating in more than forty countries, immediately rejected the claims. The charity emphasised that its staff have themselves been killed by terrorists, underscoring the absurdity of suggesting collusion.

The allegations, it argued, were not only false but “particularly offensive and deeply troubling,” as they risked undermining trust in its humanitarian work and jeopardising the safety of employees and beneficiaries.

By September 2025, GB News had issued a public apology, acknowledging that the allegations were untrue and accepting that Islamic Relief does not promote or support extremism.
