Gerasimov repeats false claim of full Luhansk occupation, Kyiv calls it propaganda - mezha.net

A top Ukrainian official says renewed claims of full Luhansk control are part of a staged propaganda push, raising alarm over information manipulation.

Russian officials continue to spread false statements about the frontline situation, in particular regarding the alleged full occupation of the Luhansk Oblast, which is part of an information campaign to support the continuation of the war.

According to Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the NSDC, the information is spread via Telegram.

“Gerasimov lied for the second time about the ‘full occupation of Luhansk Oblast’. Before this, he had already lied about the ‘occupation of Kupiansk’, – he noted.

According to Kovalenko, the head of the Russian General Staff, Valery Gerasimov, belongs to the wing of Russian elites who advocate continuing the war at any price.

“Therefore his task is to lie about military feats, and somewhere Putin’s Petersburg-based colleagues from the FSB will legitimize this lie,” he explained.
