Google to appeal German court ruling assigning liability for AI Overviews false claims - The Economic Times

Synopsis

Google will challenge a German court's decision. The court found the tech giant directly responsible for incorrect information in its AI Overviews. These summaries appear above regular search results. Google disagrees with the ruling. The company plans to appeal this judgment. This case involves specific errors in the AI summaries.

Alphabet's Google will appeal a German court ruling which said that it is directly liable for false claims appearing in AI Overviews, the US tech company said on Friday.

The challenge came after a Munich court on Thursday issued the landmark judgment against Google's AI-generated summaries that appear above traditional search engine results.

"This case focuses on specific and narrow errors, not the foundational way AI Overviews displays web content. We disagree with the ruling and plan to appeal," a Google spokesperson said in an email.
