Nebraska Gov.-elect Jim Pillen recently announced a new contract with the state troopers union that includes the largest pay hike in 20 years.
Pillen said the contract with the union, the State Law Enforcement Bargaining Council, will take effect on July 1.
The starting wage will increase to $30 an hour for troopers, a $5.43 per hour raise. The increase places new hires at salary currently paid to a trooper with an average of eight years seniority.
Pay rates will increase accordingly at each level of seniority. If the new contract follows the same parameters of pay as the current contract, a state trooper with eight years of service could see an increase of more than $6 per hour.
The agreement also includes higher pay for troopers with special assignments, such as Air Wing, service dog (K9) handlers, training academy sergeants, ISO sergeants, carrier enforcement investigative sergeants and executive protectors.
Pillen said incentives to help troopers with training and equipment are also a priority in the new contract.
“This agreement sets NSP up to recruit the next generation of troopers to serve across our state,” said Col.
