Government Accountability Project Applauds the FBI Whistleblower Protection Enhancement Act of 2025
WASHINGTON–Government Accountability Project applauds Senator Chuck Grassley’s (R-IA) introduction of the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Whistleblower Protection Enhancement Act of 2025, cosponsored with Senator Gary Peters (D-MI). This is a landmark piece of legislation that would finally provide FBI employees with the same whistleblower protections afforded to other federal civil servants.
While recent legislation granted FBI employees limited access to the Merit Systems Protection Board, glaring gaps in federal whistleblower protections leave FBI employees vulnerable to retaliation for reporting waste, fraud, abuse, and threats to public safety. The bill would give FBI employees nearly identical legal standards and outside appeal rights that protect other civil servants, closing the biggest remaining gaps in the system. Importantly, the bill ensures that FBI whistleblowers have the same burdens of proof as their civil service peers.
