NEW DELHI, Dec 15: The government has circulated a bill among Lok Sabha members seeking to repeal the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) and introduce a new rural employment law titled the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin), sources said.

According to the draft legislation, the proposed Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM G) Bill, 2025 aims to replace the MGNREGA Act of 2005 and establish a revamped rural development framework aligned with the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

The bill provides a statutory guarantee of 125 days of wage employment in every financial year to each rural household whose adult members are willing to undertake unskilled manual work. It also seeks to promote empowerment, economic growth, convergence of schemes and saturation of benefits to build a prosperous and resilient rural India.

Sources said the bill has been circulated for consideration and is likely to be introduced in Parliament during the ongoing Winter Session, which began on December 1 and will conclude on December 19.
