Govt warns against spread of malicious slander and false allegations - NST Online

KUALA LUMPUR: The government has expressed serious concern over the spread of malicious slander and false allegations deliberately circulated by irresponsible parties.

The Prime Minister's senior press secretary, Tunku Nashrul Abaidah, said such actions are clearly intended to undermine government efforts and threaten public order by conflating different issues.

"Regarding the issue of Quran desecration involving a student, the Madani government would like to reiterate that the individual concerned was arrested by police on Feb 25, a day after the incident became public.

"Immediate action was taken and the individual was charged in court today. The government will never tolerate any form of insult to Islam, especially against the Quran," he said during the Prime Minister's Office daily briefing today.

He added, as emphasised by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, that Malaysia is a country governed by the rule of law.

"True justice demands a transparent judicial process, not judgment without due process," he said.

Tunku Nashrul urged the public to refer to accurate and reliable sources before sharing information, and not to use social media as a platform to spread accusations unsupported by facts.

"The public are also urged to allow the legal process to proceed fairly and transparently, and not to exploit the sanctity of religion for partisan political interests," he added.
