GRAND RAPIDS, MI – The Grand Rapids Police Department is holding an open house Tuesday and taking applications for people looking to become an academy-sponsored recruit.
The open house Tuesday, Feb. 14, where people can learn more about GRPD’s sponsored recruit positions, will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Garfield Park Community Gym, 2111 Madison Ave. SE.

Sponsored recruits also earn full-time wages and benefits during the academy. The hourly wage for police recruits is $25.15 an hour.
After a candidate successfully completes the academy and in-house GRPD training, they will be sworn in at the department as a certified police officer.
The current application period for sponsored candidates is open and runs through Feb. 24. Those interested can apply at this link.
The open house Tuesday is a drop-in format, with no presentation and no need for attendees to stay the full two hours.
Recruiters will be at the event and can talk one-on-one about the different opportunities at GRPD. Attendees can also practice the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards physical agility test at the open house.
