CONTRACTOR-COUPLE Pacifico “Curlee” and Sarah Discaya have been criticized by a Quezon City anti-corruption group for dragging lawmakers into the flood control mess.
Janno Orate, Quezon City Against Corruption (QCAC) chairman, lamented during Friday’s forum at the Kamuning Bakery and Café that political rivals who lost in the previous elections weaponized the issue to destroy incumbent lawmakers and push their ambitions forward.
“It has become confusing now as the issue is being used by some politicians, and this is already fake news, what is happening is that it is already tainted with politics,” Orate said in Filipino.
He also slammed another group that claimed to be an anti-corruption advocate, which threatened to sue the lawmakers for their alleged involvement in the “anomalous” flood control projects without proper investigation.
“We, at the QCAC, always investigate first before we criticize and organize press conferences. We are angry at corruption, but due process is very important and must be observed because what we want is for the genuinely guilty to be punished,” he said.
“How can they call themselves an anti-corruption group? It’s like they were just formed in order to destroy somebody’s credibility,” he added.
Orate did not mention the name of the group but said its actions were obviously politically motivated, as all of the QC lawmakers implicated have the capability to run for mayor in 2028.
