Growing EY Initiative Promotes Neurodiversity in the Workplace - Bloomberg Law

An untapped workforce has proven a source of talent and innovation for EY, which is continuing to expand its neurodiversity hiring initiative as neurodivergent people gain visibility.

Ernst & Young recruits neurodivergent employees at its 14 Neuro-Diverse Centers of Excellence, which Hiren Shukla, the executive who founded and leads the NCoEs, said benefits the company and brings more diversity into the workplace. NCoE team members can include recent graduates, experienced professionals, and people without degrees. Like all other EY employees, NCoE workers, who are full-time, are able to advance in their career within the company, Shukla said.

The first NCoE was founded in Philadelphia in 2016, and more have launched throughout the US and other countries, including Canada, the UK, and Costa Rica. The centers employ over 300 people.

Shukla said EY has saved over 3.5 million hours on work process optimization thanks to the NCoEs. Just a few days after EY closed its offices in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, NCoE employees used programming and data analytics to identify how to best use resources and predict how the pandemic would affect customers’ activities, saving $300 million for the company in the process, he said.
