Guv’s address: Opposition accuses HP govt of making ‘false claims’ - The Times of India
Shimla: The BJP on Tuesday accused the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led Congress govt of making "false claims" in the governor's address in Himachal Pradesh assembly.
The opposition also condemned the "incorrect reporting" by a few Hindi newspapers, which mentioned that governor Shiv Pratap Shukla said in vidhan sabha on Monday that the central govt was responsible for the financial crisis in the hill state.
On the second day of the ongoing 16-day budget session of Himachal Pradesh vidhan sabha, leader of opposition Jai Ram Thakur raised the issue regarding "false claims" made by the govt and "incorrect" media reportage through a point of order, underlining that everyone knows that the governor's address is a state govt document.
Urging speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania to take cognisance of the "incorrect" media reporting, the BJP leader accused the state govt of putting pressure on the media and registering FIRs against journalists.
Responding to the allegations, CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu clarified that the state govt could not dictate the media and it was the prerogative of the newspapers as to what headline they wanted to give.
He, however, admitted that the governor read out the speech in the House and it was a govt document approved by the cabinet. Taking note of the matter, the speaker said he had taken cognisance of the matter and if anybody moved a motion, he would take action.
