Hannah rubbishes claims DBKL has only 8 non-Malay employees - Free Malaysia Today

KUALA LUMPUR:

The public has been urged not to be misled by false claims circulating online about Kuala Lumpur City Hall’s (DBKL) workforce composition, which have surfaced amid the state election campaign.

Federal territories minister Hannah Yeoh said a poster circulated via WhatsApp claiming DBKL employed only seven Indians and one Chinese was false and did not reflect the local authority’s actual workforce data.

She said that as of July 1, DBKL employed 9,131 people, including 490 Indians and 22 Chinese.

“Within the management and professional group, there are 10 Indian officers and two Chinese officers.

“At the same time, I acknowledge that representation within DBKL can still be improved,” she said in a Facebook post.

Yeoh said she has instructed DBKL to review its recruitment data, hiring practices, promotion processes and job advertisement channels to identify any gaps and implement improvements that are transparent, fair and merit-based.

She also urged all parties not to exploit the issue to sow racial discord.
