HBO Reveals First Look At Sydney Sweeney As Whistleblower Reality Winner in Reality - AOL

Sydney Sweeney is branching out from her roles as high schooler Cassie Howard in Euphoria and college student Olivia Mossbacher in The White Lotus, and taking on a different genre as her next big project.

Aside from filming the upcoming Euphoria Season 3 and being cast alongside Dakota Johnson in Sony’s Madame Web, it was announced that the HBO actress will be joining the cast of Tina Satter’s Reality, a new film about USA government whistleblower Reality Winner. Nearly a year after HBO confirmed Sydney's addition to the film's cast, the network finally shared a first look at Sydney as the whistleblower. The film hits HBO Max on May 29.

Need a refresher (or a full introduction) on who Reality Winner is? Sydney will be playing the 25-year-old former Air Force intelligence specialist for the US government, known for leaking a private report about Russian interferences in the 2016 United States elections. Reality Winner received the longest-ever sentence for releasing unauthorized information to the press (specifically, The Intercept) — five years and three months of jail time.

Reality is based on the play Is This A Room, which had a successful run on Broadway back in 2021. The 70-minute play revealed the harrowing details of Reality Winner's tense FBI interrogation following her arrest, described as "a steady, gut-churning stream of "what ifs"' by Deadline. Tina Satter directed the Broadway play and will be adapting it for the big screen.
