Head of employment practice in Tokyo returns to DLA Piper - Law.asia
Lawrence Carter has returned to DLA Piper as co-head of the Japan employment practice, marking his second stint at the firm after departing in 2022 to return to the US.
Carter told Asia Business Law Journal: “[The] DLA Piper Tokyo office is growing rapidly, and there will be plenty of opportunities to work with them on various types of cross-border projects. When the opportunity came up to return to Tokyo … I could not pass it up.”
He will lead the practice alongside partner Keiji Nasuda. Carter has more than 15 years of expertise in Japan, handling multijurisdictional matters such as workforce reductions, terminations and harassment investigations.
During his time away, Carter told Asia Business Law Journal that he practised at a local firm in Hawaii, representing employers and employees in disputes and investigations.
DLA Piper’s Tokyo office has been actively enhancing its employment and real estate practices. This move follows the recent hire of Ed Sheremeta, who joined as co-head of the firm’s real estate practice in Tokyo.
