Head of San Francisco Chinese Chamber of Commerce resigns amid scandalous legal disputes - NBC Bay Area

President of the San Francisco Chinese Chamber of Commerce Donald Luu has resigned from his influential position as ongoing legal battles embroil one of the oldest Chinese American business organizations in the United States. According to Luu’s attorney, his decision to step down partly stems from “unsubstantiated rumors and gossip” that were becoming a distraction for the chamber.

“I made the difficult decision to resign from my position as President of the Board of the San Francisco Chinese Chamber of Commerce so that I could focus on my family and not allow an employee's false allegations against me to distract from the essential work of the chamber,” Luu said in a statement to NBC Bay Area’s Investigative Unit.

The chamber, which boasts a storied history spanning more than a century, remains one of San Francisco's most powerful and influential civic institutions, hosting some of the city's best-known cultural events, including the Chinese New Year Parade.

Donald Luu resigned three weeks before his term was set to expire

Luu’s term as president was set to expire Tuesday, but the longtime activist and community organizer resigned more than three weeks early. Luu said he remains an active member of the chamber’s board of directors.

This all comes amid accusations from a chamber employee, Judy Lee. According to a statement from her attorney, Lee is alleging sexual harassment, unwelcome advances, and a hostile work environment during her time with the chamber.
