St. Francis health-care system in Greenville, S.C., will pay $36.5 million to settle allegations that it violated the False Claims Act, Federal Stark Law, and Federal Anti-Kickback Statute through its bonus payment practice, according to a news release Thursday.

The collective allegedly caused the submission of false claims to Medicare and TRICARE through the tying of Piedmont Orthopedic Associates’ compensation to the volume of practice referrals to St. Francis.

Included in the collective is St. Francis Physician Services, Inc., St. Francis Hospital, and Bon Secours St. Francis Health System Inc.
