Here are the questions we want to ask Rep. Stefanik about Trump's baseless election claims - North Country Public Radio

A little over a year ago, we wrote that North Country Congresswoman Elise Stefanik had yet to answer many questions about her support of President Donald Trump's false claims of election fraud.

That is still true today, in 2022.

As journalists, we believe it's essential for her to speak about her thinking and actions during this unprecedented time in U.S. history.

Stefanik has declined NCPR's repeated requests for an interview. She has also declined those of other major media outlets in the region, continuing her strategy of denying regular access to many of the North Country’s most important news organizations and, by extension, their audiences.

Stefanik has a history of denying interviews to regional media outlets, breaking with a long-standing tradition of accessibility by both Republican and Democratic officeholders in the district. She's recently begun doing the same with national media outlets as well. It is essential in a democracy for elected leaders to speak through the media with all of their constituents, not just the ones who follow those leaders' preferred media outlets.

There remain many questions about Stefanik's role in the perpetuation of false narratives about the 2020 presidential election. As pointed out by the Albany Times-Union, the Adirondack Daily-Enterprise, as well as national outlets like the New York Times, Washington Post and CNN, the reasons Stefanik gave for objecting to the election certification don't appear to hold up to factual scrutiny....
