Honduras has formally enacted its new Part-Time Employment Law, marking a significant shift in the country’s labor framework. The decree, approved by the National Congress, was published on March 30, 2026, in the official gazette La Gaceta, bringing the new regime into immediate effect.
The legislation establishes a legal framework for part-time work in the private sector, defining schedules between 18 and 32 hours per week and guaranteeing proportional access to labor rights and social security benefits. It ensures that workers receive protections equivalent to full-time employees—such as vacation, bonuses, and weekly rest—without reducing the value of hourly wages.
In addition to these provisions, newly released details emphasize that all part-time employment contracts must be formalized in writing, reinforcing legal clarity and accountability. These contracts must include the same fundamental protections as full-time agreements, including safeguards against unjust dismissal.
The law also introduces oversight mechanisms led by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, which will conduct periodic inspections and enforce penalties for non-compliance. These measures are intended to prevent misuse of the system and ensure that employers adhere to the established standards.
