Hong Kong man arrested for reportedly doxxing ex-employer - HRD America

Public reminded to avoid doxxing others because of work disputes

A work dispute led to the arrest of a man in Hong Kong last week after he allegedly leaked his former employer's name and personal information in violation of the financial hub's anti-doxxing regulations.

The man, 54, was a former employee of the victim's company between November 2023 and May 2024, according to Hong Kong's Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (PCPD).

The former employee was the administrator of several chat groups of the organisation on an instant messaging application that was used to promote their company and its related businesses.

But in March 2025, two photos of a loan agreement that showed the employer as the borrower and a video clip of him reading the contents of the agreement were posted on two of the chat groups.

Five other photos of court documents showing the victim, the company, and its related firms as the defendants of civil claims were also posted on the chat groups, according to the PCPD.

Among the exposed personal data included in the public messages was the victim's Chinese name, Hong Kong Identity Card number, Chinese Mainland and Hong Kong mobile phone numbers, Chinese Mainland bank account number, the names of the Company and related companies, as well as his facial image.

The PCPD's message to the public indicated that the doxxing act was due to a workplace dispute, but it noted the investigation on the case is still ongoing.
