Honoring National Whistleblower Day 2025

National Whistleblower Day, commemorated annually on July 30, marks the anniversary of the first U.S. whistleblower law passed by the Continental Congress in 1778, which declared it the duty of every citizen to report misconduct. The day honors the bravery of individuals who expose wrongdoing within organizations, often at great personal and professional risk, and serves as a vital reminder of the need to protect and support whistleblowers across the public and private sectors.

As we prepare to celebrate National Whistleblower Day on July 30, Government Accountability Project joins fellow advocates in recognizing the courage of whistleblowers past and present and in continuing our efforts to ensure they are protected and heard. To celebrate National Whistleblower Day there are a range of events that elevate the voices of whistleblowers and those who defend them. These events are vital platforms for educating the public, engaging policymakers, and advocating for legal reforms that ensure whistleblowers can come forward without fear of retaliation.

Each July, the National Whistleblower Center (NWC) organizes an event on Capitol Hill to celebrate the bravery of whistleblowers and to bring together whistleblower advocates and elected officials who continue to support whistleblower rights.
