House investigators issue several subpoenas in Paxton probe ... - KTXS

AUSTIN, Texas (KEYE) — In a last-minute hearing Sunday night, the House General Investigations Committee issued several subpoenas in their investigation into Attorney General Ken Paxton, for which he was impeached in a historic vote on Saturday.

It wasn't immediately clear if the subpoenas were for the House's benefit, or if this will contribute to the impending Senate trial for Paxton, who faced immediate suspension from his role as the state's top law enforcement officer when he was impeached on Saturday.

Among the several individuals and organizations subpoenaed were: Uber Technologies, Inc., the ride-hailing service; Charles Loper; Esther Bland trust; F&M Bank and Trust; Madison G. Dean Trust; Bank of the Ozarks; Alliance Bank of Central Texas; Marquis at Treetops and Marquis on Gaston, which appear to be high-end apartment complexes in Austin and Dallas, respectively; First Financial Bank; Benchmark Mortgage; and Mindy Montford, possibly the attorney in the AG's office.

After calling the meeting, the panel immediately went behind closed doors into executive session. When they returned, Rep. Charlie Geren, R-Fort Worth, issued the subpoenas, which were passed unanimously. The committee then adjourned.

By a vote of 121-23, with two abstentions, the House largely voted to impeach Paxton; a largely bipartisan effort, it was technically led by Democrats, with 60 Republicans voting alongside 61 Democrats.
