How investigation revealed Natalie Greene’s dramatic assault claim as an alleged hoax built on fake wounds - The Economic Times

A New Jersey woman who worked for former GOP congressman Jeff Van Drew has been charged with staging a violent political attack on herself and lying to federal investigators, Acting US Attorney and Special Attorney Alina Habba announced.

Natalie Greene, 26, of Ocean City, faces charges on one count of conspiracy to convey false statements and hoaxes and another count of making false statements to federal authorities. She appeared in federal court on November 19, 2025, before US Magistrate Judge Elizabeth A. Pascal and was released on a $200,000 unsecured bond along with other court-ordered conditions.

Both charges, conspiracy and making false statements, carry maximum penalties of five years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and up to three years of supervised release.

What happened

According to prosecutors, the incident unfolded late on July 23, 2025, when Greene’s co-conspirator called 911, claiming that she and Greene had been violently attacked by three men while walking a trail. The caller alleged the men referenced Greene by name and mentioned her employment with “Federal Official 1,” whose identity is known to investigators.

Responding officers discovered Greene in a wooded area just off the trail, her hands and feet tightly bound with black zip ties. Another zip tie had been used to pull her shirt over her head, restricting her movement and vision.
