General Hun Manet, the future Prime Minister candidate for the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), has blasted news outlet Cambodia Daily Khmer over false claims – that he says are ‘beyond the red line’

Dr. Hun Manet has expressed outrage over the claims, that were made in an article entitled “International Press Revealed the illegal timber trade network of Mr. Hun Manet”, which quoted an article on the Monga Bay website written by a former VOD journalist on on March 16, 2023

The article alluded to deforestation in Siem Pang and Sesan districts of Stung Treng province.

Mr. Hun Manet stated that the Cambodia Daily exaggerated and further accused him of being a timber trader, or being linked to timber traders

“It is out of bounds and I can not accept it,” said Dr. Hun Manet . “I asked the Cambodia Daily if there was any evidence that Monga Bay showed me in that article,” he said.

“How many pages does the newspaper say that Hun Manet is the mastermind of the illegal logging network in Cambodia?” .

He also asked the Monga Bay newspaper, as well as the author of the original article, to ask the Cambodia Daily to comment on the matter, as the newspaper was distorting the article for political gain.
