Olympic medallist and boxing champion Mary Kom has found herself at the centre of a fresh legal battle, this time involving her former husband Onler Kom.
Onler has filed criminal defamation proceedings against Mary, alleging that she made false and damaging remarks about him on television and other public platforms. The development comes as Mary is currently appearing on Bigg Boss 20, adding another twist to the highly publicised story of the former couple.
The case has been filed under Section 356 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with defamation. The next hearing is scheduled for November 19, 2026. If convicted under the provision, the punishment can extend to two years in prison, a fine, or both.

Onler says he has a ‘strong case’
Onler has confirmed that he has taken the matter to court but has chosen not to discuss the details while the proceedings are ongoing.
Speaking to the media, he said: “I have a strong case. I have faith in the judicial system of India. The matter is sub judice, so I won’t comment any further.”
