A whistleblower has accused Scottish civil servants of an “institutional paranoia of secrecy” and claimed officials believe they have a duty to protect the government from the press.
Edward Soden-Bird, a policy adviser on a temporary contract, said he was ordered to delete an important message about the legal approval for Edinburgh’s new Sick Kids hospital in case it became the subject of a freedom of information request.
The former lawyer has handed over evidence, seen by The Sunday Times, to a formal inquiry into the construction of the facility, which has been dogged by ventilation problems.
