IBM has landed in a serious cybersecurity storm after a former executive accused the tech giant of hiding several data breaches from US officials.
William Barlow, IBM’s former vice president of threat intelligence, claims the company’s core network faced repeated attacks from foreign state-linked hackers. His whistleblower lawsuit alleges IBM downplayed or concealed incidents before giving security assurances to government clients.
The case centres on William Barlow, a former IBM cybersecurity leader who says he witnessed problems from inside the company. According to reports on the lawsuit, Barlow alleges IBM’s network suffered repeated intrusions, including attacks linked to foreign governments.
The claims matter because IBM doesn’t only sell software and consulting. It also works with governments, large companies, banks, and critical infrastructure operators around the world.
