IDAHO, USA — A state judge has ruled that Idaho Attorney General Raúl Labrador must testify under oath in a lawsuit brought by a former deputy who alleges she was wrongfully terminated.
On April 17, Idaho 4th District Judge Jonathan Medema partially denied the Attorney General's Office's request for a protective order that would have prevented Labrador from being deposed in the case filed by former Deputy Attorney General Daphne Huang.
"The court rejected the attempt by the Idaho Attorney General's Office that sought to shield Labrador from answering questions by the former employee's lawyers," according to court documents.
Huang, who served as legal counsel for the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare before her dismissal, filed the lawsuit in September 2023. Her complaint alleges that her termination was a direct result of voicing ethical concerns regarding client representation.
"Plaintiff alleges that she was terminated from her employment with the Office of the Attorney General in retaliation for her complaints about what she perceived as unethical conduct," the lawsuit states.
According to court filings, Huang "raised ethical concerns related to her clients' legal representation" multiple times before her employment was terminated.
