IIT Kanpur Hires CBSE Whistleblower - BW Education

Adhikary has joined C3iHub, IIT Kanpur’s cybersecurity innovation hub, as an Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) and Threat Intelligence Engineer. His hiring comes after he reported vulnerabilities in CBSE’s On-Screen Marking (OSM) system, which is used in the evaluation process.

Prof Manindra Agrawal, Director, IIT Kanpur, confirmed the appointment and described Adhikary as a talented young engineer with strong technical capabilities. He said the institute saw significant potential in him and brought him into its cybersecurity ecosystem.

The development has drawn attention because Adhikary has only recently completed Class 12. While many students of his age are preparing for undergraduate admissions, his technical work has led to a full-time role at one of India’s leading technology institutions.

According to reports, Adhikary had claimed to have found vulnerabilities in CBSE’s digital systems and responsibly reported them to authorities. The issue triggered wider discussion on the security of education technology platforms, especially those linked to examinations, evaluation and student records.

The case also highlights the growing importance of cybersecurity in education. As school boards, universities and testing agencies move more processes online, digital systems are becoming central to examination management, marking, admissions, student data and public trust.
